They are bred to be killed for fun. At the expense of the common man, who is denied access to land. Yes I meant in the metaphorical sense not the literal. They aren't No1 on the bird watchers list of must sees. It doesn't spring to mind instantly if you picture the countryside whereas other birds and animals do.
