iansheff
The only thing I have noticed "The Games" promoting is huge profits, corporate hospitality back slapping and lobbying opportunities galore. As an example of profiteering, this article in the Telegraph about rip off food and drink prices at the games (which have just been released) has the CEO of LOCOG practically admitting that they are ripping people off but justifying it because everyone gets ripped off at sporting events like this. The whole thing is awful, somebody wake me up on the 13th of August please. Interesting article, I read it elsewhere and it said that you would not be allowed liquids in containers that hold more than 100ml same as the airports. ECCOnoob
For god sake. Im sick of people whinging that only London are benefiting from the games. What a load of crock. Oh yeah its just london right..... Except: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-south-yorkshire-11117348 http://trainingcamps.london2012.com/about-our-training-camps/SearchResults.aspx?Reg=Yorkshire&Sec=SPORTING+VENUES&advsrch=1&LanguageCode=en http://www.london2012.com/documents/venue-documents/pre-games-training-camps-agreements.pdf clearly there is absolutely no potential for any other part of the country to get involved with the olympics. Silly me... Obviously the thousands of athletes, support staff, officials, media, mentors, trainers, medics will all be doing their preparations and base camps in central london for the next few months. I am not knocking it, I will probably watch a bit on tv, I particualrly like the 100yards fastest druggie, the womens volleyball is also excellent as is the female wrestling. The jump on one foot leap on another then shoot youself into the sand is a good laugh, and I love it when the spear throwers hit some one.

To be fair I don't think that the majority of complaints are about London holding the games to the detriment of the rest of the country, it's that Paris isn't holding the games, to the detriment of the rest of France
Jim Graham
Does anyone know when the athletes who are coming to train in Sheffield arrive? Are there any plans to spruce the city up a bit? Or will we be treated to the spectacle of Comrade Dore hanging around the training camps begging for spare change because those nasty toffs have confiscated her spending money? llamatron
I can't believe how farcical this is? They have taken the torch everywhere at great expense-does anyone really care? They have devised the most embarrassing, overcomplicated, unfair ticketing system known to man. They have abandoned monopoly rules to allow the massive corporate sponsors to create their own olympic monopolies. they have kept most of the tickets away from public hands they seem to have been done over by a cowboy security firm they seem to be attempting to close london for the duration what the hell kind of incompetent outfit arranged all of this, its really embarrassing:blush: The sponsership adverts are doing my nut in as well "little jonny got to pursue his olympic dream because mummy jonny bought lots of our washing powder"
