Williamson Hardware in Broomhill threatened

Recommended Posts

In other words, Williamsons generate more traffic / car journeys / parking problems / pollution than Sainsurys would! ;)

And generates a goood local economy, including jobs not just in Williamsons, where Sainsbury could have the oposite effect, after all there is one less than a mile down the road at Western park and less than a mile up the road at Crookes.

Also, as Williamson's is a local business, the profits get spent in the local Sheffield economy. You can't say that about Sainsbury whose profits are distributed amongst it's shareholders and don't benefit the Sheffield economy.

parking fine

its NOT a fine!! if you get a cheeky nonsensical unenforceable invoice from excell. screw it up and find the nearest bin to deposite it in before you get back in the car.

if everyone stopped paying these invoices then excell, and everyother private highway man company like them, would go out of buisness.

and thats one cancer of the land (similar to tesco) that id like to see dissapear.

90 objections on the sheffield council website I hope more people object. Show the voice of opinion. I'm not from Broomhill but fed up with chain shops destroying our citys.

I used to study in Huddersfield and the town was made up of Merry England, Ryan News and Greggs.

I don't know about Sainsbury in particular, but most national chains are public companies, with many shareholders, including pension funds. Like pretty much everywhere else in the UK there will be people in Sheffield who benefit from these companies being successful. We will share this with people in all other cities in the UK, but similarly we will share the profits from the nationally owned chains in those other cities. Provided the chains are everywhere, then the local communities everywhere also benefit.

There's nothing magically wonderful about a company being locally owned.

There are currently 2 rubbish small supermarkets in Broomhill (Savers or whatever it's called is even worse than the Spar!). If a Sainsbury's opens the rubbish supermarkets will go bust, so then we will have 2 empty units and a Sainsbury's where a good shop like Williamsons was:(

Can't Sainsbury's force the rubbish 'Savers' out so we keep Williamsons and have a half decent convenience store:hihi: No one would miss Savers
