Drug money bailed out the banking system.

Antonio Maria Costa, head of the UN Office on Drugs and Crime, said he has seen evidence that the proceeds of organised crime were "the only liquid investment capital" available to some banks on the brink of collapse last year. He said that a majority of the $352bn (£216bn) of drugs profits was absorbed into the economic system as a result.

Were approaching the same situation right now.

Just think what good we could do if we used South Yorkshire cannabis to fund South Yorkshire projects.

Money talks, perhaps the only way of realising cannabis regulation and taxation for the public good is to preempt the tax.

If all of Sheffield's or even South Yorkshire's potheads descended upon Sheffield, with but a quid each, they could chuck it all into the pot, and pay in lieu a tax for one joint/X cannabis.

That money could be used for local good. Kitting out a childrens sporting club for example.

Drug money needs to be brought back into the economy. Drug dealing is big business because of its legality. Drug dealing needs to be controlled. Do we want money (profits from drugs) funneled into the hands of criminals? Or should we distribute it ourselves for the communal good? Offering rehabilitation at the point of sale for those whom request it!

Read many years ago that the Brinks Matt money built Canary Wharf.

Who says crime doesn't pay.

The Brinks Mat robbery may have been a nice little tickle however it wouldn't be sufficient to fund Canary Wharf !

A sizable amount of cash from the notorious Brinks Mat bullion robbery was invested in the Docklands redevelopment in the 1980s. Exactly how much, no one knows, but the return made the crooks involved even richer.

Above cut and pasted from the New Statesman. There was a programme on C4 a few years ago regarding this.

Sounds good in theory, however, do you advocate the government peddling crack, LSD,heroin, crystal meth and pcp just so long as they have customs & excise stickers on them?

No. The government cannot be trusted.

But some dealers can.
