London Bus Drivers To Strike During Olympics. What lovely folks.

Recommended Posts

All the major companies are about to rip ordinary people off in this corporate back slapping sports day, from hotels to restaurants, landlords to Visa Credit Cards, Locog themselves will no doubt be paying themselves a healthy bonus so why shouldn't the bus drivers join in? Its fine for corporations and the elite to profit at our expense but woe betide the humble bus driver who asks for a measly £500 extra. Good on them and I hope they bring London to a juddery smoke filled halt.

Which of those companies are trying to blackmail someone into paying it?

Is the bus company putting their fares up? Genuine question?

Landlords are upping rent and threatining to throw people out of their homes if they don't pay up. Visa have ensured that cash machines at the venues are switched off and machines which will only accept Visa are being installed. There is a lot which is obscene about the olympics, bus drivers asking for a bonus to reflect the extra workload is not part of it.

A measley £250 a week bonus on top of their already healthy London weighted wages for doing nothing more than the job that they are already being paid to do. It's no wonder this country has run up so much debt. Folks expect to be handed money for doing nothing.

Incidentally a London bus driver is paid around £14.50/hr for standard hours. Around £15.50 for work after 9 pm, and generous overtime beyond the standard 38 hour week.

Very doubtful as the fare are set by Transport for London as are taxi fares.

Asking for a bonus would not be obscene. Trying to blackmail an organisation for whom they do not work, into paying them money, is a criminal offence.

What extra workload? Is it harder to drive a bus with 50 people on than it is to drive one with 40?

...........All of them.

You want a hotel in London during the Olympics, you pay an increased price.

You want a beer in London during the Olympics, pay extra.

You want food in London during the Olympics, pay extra.

You get the idea?

Everyone is increasing their prices during the Olympics, and why not? Business is business!

I think it's a great move by the unions. They've picked a perfect time to ask for a bonus.

No idea. I presume not although the assumed increased patronage will ensure a healthy profit increase, which is probably what the bus drivers want a part of.

No problem with them sharing the fortunes of the company so long as they are prepared to take the cuts in the bad times without compliant...

It's not really blackmail though is it? Your choice to go...
