ronthenekred
:huh:How come the queen gets to unveil it? Why not give that job to a veteran? Way to go Waldo.
ronthenekred
Why? The Bomber Command Association approached her to open the memorial, not the other way around. jb Doesn't stop her from showing decency..does it?
Number Six
It would be amazing if the Queen said "if he isn't there, I won't be there" Surely to goodness, with a crowd of thousands, they can fit one more in anyway?

What about the 1000s of others who were unable to get tickets? Furthermore there is nothing stopping him going to pay his respects at a later date. jb

Waldo
Why? The Bomber Command Association approached her to open the memorial, not the other way around. jb Perhaps Bomber Command were somewhat incompetent, in that they neglected to invite him? Anyhow, whatever the case may be; the lady who refers to herself as 'Queen' should perhaps consider what she has done that merits her presence, and contrast that with what this old soldier has done. What makes you think they were even aware he exists? Where were you when the unveiling was being organised, why didn't you offer your services in tracing the 66000 survivors and their families to see if they wanted to attend? I'm sure your help would have been much appreciated. Maybe instead of complaining on an internet forum you could offer to contact each of the 6500 people who have managed to get tickets to ask if they wouldn't mind stepping aside in his favour. jb

They asked her to unveil the memorial, she doesn't have a ticket and isn't going as a guest. Are you suggesting that the entire event be cancelled because this veteran doesn't have a ticket?
