Fifty Shades of Grey - Don't see what all the fuss is about myself

Recommended Posts

The funniest thing about the whole fifty shades of grey furore is that it's got the feminists all muddled and confused.

For years they've been saying that any man who uses porn is an evil sexist pervert for objectifying women as little more than pieces of meat for their sexual satisfaction. Now it's revealed that women actually enjoy pornography too they don't know what to make of it. Especially as the book's popularity shows that most women's sexual fantasies involve being tied up and submissive to a man's desires!

Actually, it is only radical feminists who take such a hard line on porn and erotica has been around for years. Also there is a world of difference between fantasy and reality and whilst this book may have enabled some women to put their fantasies into practice, no one is denying that whatever goes on between two consenting adults is entirely down to them. However, this book misrepresents BDSM hugely. Significantly, Christian Grey emphasises his pleasure at the expense of Ana's throughout the whole tedious protracted negotiation of the sex slave contract, his focus is all about her being owned and possessed by him as that is where he gets his kicks. In real BDSM scenarios, the aim is for both the Dom's and sub's to achieve ultimate pleasure in a complementary fashion.

If some feminists wish to deny that women enjoy sex and (some) porn as much as men, then so be it. However, feminists are not one homogenous entity, there are plenty of different and conflicting schools of thought which is why there is not one single cohesive movement anymore.

women should have more respect for themselves than to read filth like that.

It is just a book for immature women who probably have never read a book since they left school and probably didn't then.

I read to expand my mind not to put it in the gutter.

This country is going downhill with lap dancing clubs all over the place and sex shops like Ann Summers on high streets and in places like Meadowhall. Even the Metro newspaper on public transport has articles on it. You can't get away from it anymore. People are too open about it now. Thank god for BBC4 and the yesterday channel and 6 music for high culture.

That's Amazon.com, which is American. They must have a different book cover design for the US market, I've never seen that jacket before.

I hear people at work being so open about this book & I just find it embarrasing.

I am conservative about my topic of conversations I keep it to sport and things that interest me such as hill walking and mountain biking.

What an exciting life you lead. !
