Teddybare
In a civilised society the rules however would be fair, just and proper and not merely intended to extort money. The Cons said that they were going to end the war on motorists, what a bunch of liars they are. What speed limits would you suggest? I like the idea of an autobahn system for motorways where there's no pedestrians but I also think 30mph is a lot to hit a child at outside a school. Gamadar
Do you think we should be allowed to break any laws we disagree with? Only where the law is unfair.

Xt500
They wouldn’t extort money from a motorist that is speeding and paying attention because they wouldn’t get caught. Why do you think that? A stationary white van isnt something that would trigger a safety alarm to a competent driver, its no threat and there are plenty of things going on that would deserve real attention. All this speed crap does is give the incompetent drivers some excuse for incomeptent driving and often results in them doing dangerous things as a result of their bad attitudes. where the speedo points is no indication of safe driving what so ever, most accidents happen below the speed limit but speeding fines and courses do make large amounts of money. And the courses are full of inacuracies so whats the point in them? They are just a legal bribe. Private companies should not profit from so called criminal offences because the obvious would happen and thats just what happening. Camera vans are not interested in proper speeders just the creepers over by a few mph, thats the only ones they can profit from as the proper speeders wont qualify for courses so theres no interest in them.Dont you find anything wrong with that? Xt500
Saying that, part of me thinks there is some justification, many drivers now dont even know which lane they are supposed to drive in never mind anything else. Its time they retested all drivers on a 10 year basis and stop treating drivers all drivers like kids.
melthebell
haha this old chestnut again the same people whinging about it being a cash cow, its right what the first two posters said DONT speed dont get fined, they dont make money simples its purely people that think it doesnt apply to them that then get caught speeding, same with the flashing speeders before a speed camera.........speedings against the law, do it, take the consequences just like murdering somebody or stealing someat

Gamadar
It is time that they stopped fining motorists for speeding. The points system is enough to deter speeders . It is not the fine that motivates people to change their driving habits, but the points that they get on their licence. To prove that they are not a bunch of liars who are simply out to extort money this government should stop fining people and just give them points. This would prove conclusively that speed traps are not simply a cashcow.
