Looks like circumcision could be banned.

Recommended Posts

From Radio 4's Woman's Hour yesterday, on the subject of circumcision:

-(Radio interviewer) So what have you observed in your own practice among circumcised men?

-(Confused Doctor guy) I've never observed any difference. It's never been complained about, uhm..err.. you often, err.. well, I shouldn't say often, from time to time you get men who say "I've lost feeling down there, I don't get the same feeling", but there's no difference between circumcised and uncircumcised men, I've never.. observed that.

So, he's saying that it's never been complained about, then he gives an example of a complaint, then finishes off by saying there's no difference between circumcised and uncircumcised, even though his patients are telling him otherwise.

If the doctors are ignoring the patients, there's no wonder people think there's nothing wrong with it.

You seem to have missed the point of a forum, then!

The discussion might change people's views and the pen is mightier than the sword.

My views have been changed since I first joined the forum. Of course people can change. Especially reasonable people, when reason is applied.

I'm just waiting to see if Jeffrey Shaw comes back with an explanation for his claims about the "covenant".

(or are you equating circumcision with an extremist act? !!! :hihi:)

You cannot know that. Don't assume other people's views are all as entrenched as yours.

To be fair, Mel's defence of the practice has been very mild, methinks mainly because he's had it done to himself, rather than him being in favour of it. As I said before, I think on most other threads he would be speaking out in favour of the right to choose.

I wasn't commenting about his views on circumcision, simply on his rather depressing opinion that forum debate generally is pointless.
