Because the country needs it's tax income?

 

Tel you what..if I didn't pay as much tax as I do then I'd spend more..so more VAT,duty maybe more jobs for the people who supply goods and services.. etc etc..wouldn't you rather decide what you spent your cash on rather than just handing it over..

I'm not ideologically married to income tax, as long as all the relevant government department are adequately funded, I don't mind where the government gets it money from. As long as it's fair and equitable.

 

I do foresee a situation in the future where the country's is based upon VAT rather than income tax, as there has defiantly been a shift in this direction of the last few decades.
