KARATE DAVE
But Carr's a total hypocrite, often lambasting others under the guise of 'satire' for something he's doing himself. And what you regard as the Government's incompetence is doing the rest of us out of our legitimate national income. The loophole should be closed forthwith. And the bankruptcy one as well, whilst they're at it. (a fave hobby horse of mine) We could probably have had a score of nurses or teachers or a couple of doctors out of what Carr hasn't paid into the treasury coffers. Or does it only apply as a stick to beat people we don't like? I think his public persona is just, as it should be, an act. Whatever he does in his personal life, is a Jimmy Carr the Person issue. I have no doubt judging by his style, he will mock himself when he is on tv. is it not human nature to try and save money?
Balpin
By it being ermmmmm 2.61 million. Interesting counting there! But then again for someone who seems to think that tories spend their time split between stroking white cats, twirling mustachioes and knee-capping blind orphans that's hardly surprising... Do you really understand how many people 2,610,000 people would look like enmasse? People without a hope, who the rest of us have to support. Now he is putting thousands of soldiers, sailors and airmen to join that total. It is all well and good being flippant as you are, but these are real people. Not figures on your surgery computer screen.
southcoast
Lets be honest if we were in the position to avoid paying tax we would, all this hypocrisy makes we laugh.
KARATE DAVE
you only have to look at the 60 odd percent that the government take from each litre of fuel we buy to make yourself feel better about avoiding paying tax.
Waldo
But if morality is a consideration; surely that cuts both ways? and we would have to consider the moral implications of actually paying tax; and what that money is going to be used for. KARATE DAVE
yes it does work both ways, but it must be said that the 60 odd percent would be better spent on your wife and kids than some minister buying a duckpond.

Anna B
Cameron, master of the unforeseen consequence, has shot himself in the foot this time with this ill thought out bit of popularism. He has picked on his own, and unlike the little people, they have money to defend themselves. Soon it will be open season on celebs and politicians throwing accusations and counter accusations at each other. If I was Jimmy Carr I would defend myself by asking (and making it my business to find out,) exactly how much tax Mr Cameron pays on his combined income, and what subsidies he gets on his landholdings etc, followed by every member of the cabinet. Personally, I would like to know what tax George Osborne, Tony Blair and Bono pay compared with their income. With any luck this could become as big a scandal as the MPs expenses.
