Location114
So I was looking at potentially placing a bet purely because I haven't done it before and I wanted to try it but I would be so happy if someone could help me with something. On williamhill i entered a stake of £5 @ 6/4 and my estimated return is £12.50 how is that worked out? Singles (1 Selection) Include in multiples Clear Slip David Haye v Dereck Chisora - Round Betting X David Haye On Points @ 6/4 Estimated Returns : £12.50 Stake £

Singles (1 Selection) Include in multiples Clear Slip David Haye v Dereck Chisora - Round Betting X David Haye On Points @ 6/4 Estimated Returns : £12.50 Stake £5 It works like this... How many 4s are there in 6? = 1.5 So you will get 1.5 x your fiver, and your fiver back = 12.50 6/4 = 1.5 to 1...
Location114
In terms of the 6/4 are they just odds set by williamhill then? It works like this... HeadingNorth
In terms of the 6/4 are they just odds set by williamhill then? Essentially, yes. The bookmakers sets his odds according to two factors - the biggest factor being "how likely is this to happen?" and the secondary factor being "what price will tempt people into having a bet with me?" The bookie doesn't really care what the outcome will be; his objective is to take bets on all possible outcomes, in proportions such that no matter what actually happens, he will still turn a profit.
