There's the Great Yorkshire Run in September. It's a 10k here in Sheffield. See below:

Happy running :)

I had the same idea last year to help me lose weight for my wedding and raise money at the same time, but I'm not much good at running so me and some colleagues from work did the Yorkshire Three Peaks in April (26 miles).

We're all novice walkers but we completed it in a very respectable 10 hours and 40 mins and the training really helped with my fitness levels/waistline! We raised over £1200 for the local MS Therapy Centre in Rotherham too!

I swore at the time I'd never do it again but I'm already thinking of doing it again next April to try and beat my time!

Thats great GoGo. Well done for raising all that money :)

So how would i go about raising money from a run?

In the old days we got a sponsor ship form, took pledges and the collected afterwards.

Is that still the way its done these days or is it different?

There are many tools to help you raise money. You could do the old fashioned method, using a sponsor form and collecting money in person.

If you want to reach out to a wider audience and/or want to cut out the hassle of collecting money personally, you could always create a http://www.justgiving.com fundraising page. I prefer this method as it's one less thing to worry about whilst the donations go direct to the charity.

There's nothing stopping you from doing both of the above :)
