Teddybare
A 2% or 3% rise in BofE base rates would be a good start. If people have trouble paying their mortgage(s) then assess their mortgage applications: 1. If the mortgage was applied for legitimately (i.e. legally) and the mortgagee is suffering hard times through no fault of their own then allow some form of continuing support. 2. If the mortgage was applied for fraudulently then provide a choice of criminal prosecution or two months notice to leave. The under 25s have done nothing wrong. Those who made fraudulent mortgage applications have. Punish the latter. A law that prevented people from owning more than the house they lived in and outlawed housing "associations" would be a better start. All benefits should be limited to 6months except those for the disabled.

Teddybare
There should definitely be a punitive tax. Taxes can easily be avoided. Laws can't. Neither will ever happen because most of the politicians and their friends are landlords.
JackLakeland
If it does happen some social housing providers will go bust. I can't see someone with nowhere to go voluntarily giving up their home. The landlords will not receive any rent so they'll have to go down the long road of applying for possession and then an eviction. This will take months. Then there's the cost of turning the properties around so they're ready to let again...then they have to find young people who are working that can afford the rent...They'll also have to put anyone they evict's property in storage until the tenant has somewhere to put it....A lot of properties will be void for a long period because landlords will struggle to let them, this will mean further loss of revenue. Housing Associations have mortgages these days...they'll default..
Tradescanthia
And by then, they'll all be so excited about the money they've saved, they won't bother reversing any of the Tory acts. Instead, they'll pump tons of money into nothingness again and the cycle will start over. We don't need new labour back. We need a credible alternative to all three major parties and proportional representation. Blair never repealed any of the Tory laws, New Labour were undercover Torys. 'Supercool Blair', what a joke !!! We do need a new force, but not based on the nutters like UKIP, LIB DEMS, BNP etc. In the meantime we need to get rid of Cameron before he bankrupts us. Anna B
Kids seem to grow up later these days. Many aren't capable of living alone successfully until they are 25ish. It would be nice if kids could stay at home (happily) under the supervision of their parents, saving money, getting established in jobs, learning life skills etc until they are sufficiently grown up to truly call themselves adults. Having got past all that teenage angst and being hopefully mature enough to cope, kick them out by law, to sink or swim. Hmmm....Unfortunately life's not that neat and tidy.
