What worries me most (not mentioned by OP), is the sale of illegal widgets. A cursory glance on ebay shows people selling this product at less than cost price!

For instance, 'Widget Wizard' in Bournmouth has a box of over 600 ('New, still in original packaging ... unwanted gift') for £125.00! Tell us another one Wizz!

'Slartibartfast' of HM Custom and Excises advertises ... 'Industrial shipping container of assorted widgets, many shapes and sizes, surplus to requirements ... will swap for tazer' (!?)

Not only are these cheap replica widgets damaging the businesses of bona fide widget manufacturers, they're dangerous too ... as this excerpt from 'New Scientist' shows ...

(Initials only, to conceal true identity)

'As a violinist, HBC showed little skill. Wanting to improve, and with the help of friends, he turned to the widget. The effect was immediate and devastating ... his playing turned to fiddling, lying, mood swings and a split personality took over. His 'friends' wanted nothing to do with him and left.

His mental health became so erratic he was sectioned under the mental health act and moved to a secure institution.

Doctors soon discovered the cause however ... he'd become addicted to widgets. Not only was he using up to twelve widgets a day ... they were the cheap non-regulated variety, normally only used on monkeys and non- animate objects ... the sort manufactured in the sweaty backrooms of pirate widget barons of the Far East.

Doctor Zebedee Fishguard reports that for this patient mental health intervention may be too late. However, the usage of illegal widgets has now been bought to the forefront of public awareness due to this case and may help others more fortunate.

He goes on to say that if you know a person who uses widgets, urge them to seek help with their doctor or, in extreme cases, call the Police.

A confidential widget helpline is available to those who require assistance ... further information can be found on this handy NHS website ... WWW//wonkywidgetworries.con

Whilst widget wars resulting from widget prohibition are a serious concern, not to mention foreign widget competition and tariffs, widget licensing and the effect of widgets on health, let's just assume they don't exist for the time being :)
