Obelix
The situation in the seventies was very different from today. We recovered from that, there is no guarantee that we will recover from this at all. And it's a certainty that a great many never will. We are moving exponentially towards an automated, mechanised society where full time work will become increasingly rare, and company profits will end up in the hands of the owners not the workforce Which politician is ever going to admit that? Basically it's every man for himself. Why on earth should the company profits end up in the hands of the workforce? What is this left wing obsession with demanding this all the time? Did the workforce put up the capital? No. Did it invent the process? No. Did they put their houses on the line as colatteral? No. Did they risk their savings proving a theory? No. They contracted their labour for a wage and were presumably paid for that. They enjoy some of the better employment conditions in the world, with good employment protection. So why on earth do they think they have any rights whatsoever to demand what is manifestly and patentely not theirs?

juniee
to Obelix do not think any of the workers has asked for this it has come out of George Osbornes alternative world ie la la land where he thinks every working person is daft, and no we do not have one of the best employment protections in the world. as i have said before all they want to do is to get rid of the minimum wage as they never wanted in the first place, it was one of the decent things that the last labour brought in, and the tories fought it all the way, as the rich man would now have to pay the poor man a wage he could live on, it has been eroded in the last few years which is why you have people working and having to claim benefits. Because in a capitalist economy the manufacturer makes things that people want to buy. If the people have no money because they have no work they cannot buy and therefore the circle is broken. Of course by that time the manufacturer will have grabbed his money and retired to his ivory tower, money will no longer circulate, leaving the majority to starve. Think this is alarmist? Think it can't / won't happen? Look around, it's happening all over the world as we speak.
larky
Britain once was a strong nation in fact one of the strongest in the World now its going way downhill at a fast alarming rate One big mistake was allowing many foreign people into Britain as i sais in another post Enoch Powell was correct yrs ago in the 60s and no one would listen to him and its all came home to roast now Britain was a soft nation in where foreign people seen an easy escape route out] from poverty etc Now the Brits cant find jobs and also some wont work and because these cheap foreign guys / lassies shall work for below average wages Labour unser Gordon Brown did bring out the minimim wage but the tory party are the worst towards the ordinary working class in British society and dont give a damn about the poor in which is now again proven ..we all know the torys and lib dems have no hope in hell of getting in next time the main vote takes place in Britain but hey Cameron and his side-kicks is now making sure he means business big time with hitting the poor as much as he can and without a jot of compassion As for look around its happening all over the World personally i dont give a jot for the rest of the World but only for Britain ..
