Barclays fined £300 million by the regulators

Recommended Posts

Interesting performance from Osborne in the commons. Labour evasive about responsibility for regulation.

Two things needed:

1. Both sides to acknowledge and understand the mistakes that were made

2. Both sides to agree how to prevent it in future

It's too important for political points scoring

No specifically on this site but one or two others. I find it incredible that the right wing nut jobs want to hang someone for stealing food to feed themselves and then turn around and say Barclays should be let off because they create jobs.

I agree.

And what jobs have they created? They've just sacked 600 people.

We need a public enquiry (a la leveson style) into Banking, the crash of 2008, the role of politicians, bankers & the regulators. And way they all got promoted....

2 blogs i read that both ask for similar, both really worth a read....

I think Frances Coppola's idea is more important, as the issue is Global.

I've been reading some financial journalists take on the latest situation & the consensus of opinion seems to be that:

a) Barclays were almost certainly not the only ones doing this and,

b) This could do for the financial sector what phone hacking did for the tabloids.

I'm gonna stock up on the popcorn!

Leveson? That will come to nothing!!!....it just costs a lot of money and won't solve anything. The Leveson enquiry will and won't solve anything!...It's a PR exercise!

Agreed, a further 20 banks are still being investigated. RBS/HSBC/ Credit Suisse have all been mentioned.

How can something like that be committed on such a grand scale, and yet nobody ends up in court, nobody even prosecuted?

Bob Diamond and any other co-conspirators should be facing jail time for what they'e done.

Your naivety is truly touching, that coffee smells great don't you think.

Lord Oakeshott:

'The whole city knew Barcley's Capital under Bob Diamond was a casino, but not that they were rigging the wheels and loading the dice.'

If somebody was caught doping racehorses, they'd go to prison. I don't see this as any different. I want to see Bob Diamond (and quite a few others) in chains.
