Is is illegal to read your spouse's emails

Recommended Posts

I dunno if it's just me, or the way my parents brought me up, but I see it as strictly taboo to do any of the following:

Trawl text messages on anyone elses phone.

Look or get anything out of a womans handbag

Look or get anything out of a womans purse

Look at anyone elses emails

I've had partners that say, "oh just get 'whatever' out of my purse it's in my handbag"....To that request (or something similar), I go and fetch their handbag for them and make them take out whatever it is. Even if they give me impicit permission, the same rules (for me) apply.

Maybe it's just me!

its an irrational fear of tampons!:hihi:

my husband is like that-it drives me nuts as usually if I am asking him to get something out of my handbag its because I am doing something else.

Hahaha.....Not sure about the tampons bit!....God knows what might be lurking in a womans handbag!!!!

Womens handbags are a strict no-go area for me......If you want something then I'll get your bag for you, and you can find it! :hihi:

is it illegal to log into someone elses account?

are you impersonating them or something?

Yes, it is illegal. Reading anyone's communications - electronic or otherwise - without their permission is a criminal offence.

It gets more complicated, though, if a married couple are in the routine habit of checking each other's emails; but if you've never given permission, the position is quite clear.

Throws up one or two issues around the government's intentions to spy on people though doesn't it?

Not really, no. Government can pass laws to make it legal for certain groups - such as the police, while conducting investigations - to do so. It would still be a criminal offence for an individual to do so without permission.
