I personally find it interesting that the UK's poorest and richest 5% are living cheek by jowl, London has lots of examples but Portland Road has startling social and wealth disparity differences.

I'm all for mixed communities but blocking roads to create a 'Berlin Wall' type barrier is unhealthy and ceratinly doesn't help community cohesion.

The only slight example I can think of this in Sheffield is in Shirecliffe where Standish Road is split between private and council housing lol

The price for a flat that was highlighted in the poor area where some of the poorest in the country live was valued at just under a quarter of a million!

A traffic safety barrier - which prevents traffic from entering/leaving a road at one point - is hardly a 'Berlin Wall' is it?

Which side of the barrier are the minefields?

The mines should be on the wealthy side to keep the thieves away from the decent folk.

Its all relative and London has the greatest divide, many of the people living in those tenement blocks will be on very low wages and / or housing benefits. The disparity in wealth and the barrier to further divide just one street which is home to the countrys richest and poorest 5% is what makes it a 'Berlin Wall'

There are some sheltered housing complexes now that have barriers to keep unwanted elements out. My thoughts are that these barriers will only increase and expand to different areas as the crime rate rises. The crime rates are set to rise dramatically under current conditions. There is no doubt about that.

49minutes and 51 seconds in. The following conversation takes place; (Quote = interviewer, unquoted = interviewee)

So how long has your family had this land?

Well I don't want to discuss any particular land if you don't mind Joe. But we've been up here for a long time, erm, since...

Generations?

Certainly from the medieval times.

So your family owns this wood? You own this wood?

No I er, nothing is owned by, these kinds of asets aren't owned by people anymore, we have had 100 years of socialism. Everything is owned by trusts and companies So you'll have to make inquiries.

So you don't even know who owns his place?

It is owned by a trust young man.

>>>End of conversation...

That is a perfect example of land monopoly, from the pre-determined victor of said monopoly.

It still exists and it never went away.

I'll tell you this for free, the land monopolist's daughter need not sell her body to get ahead in life. The land monopolist's son need not learn and graft hard to earn an honest living, nor does he have to steal. But the likes and you and me, and our children do - if we can afford them in the first place.

The tragedy of the commons is that a very large class of people in this country have no access to land and must subsidise large landowners. So whore out your daughters and send your sons off to war, Mr Monopoly want's paying and he is backed up by the law. The police they are there, to protect and serve, but not common men, just Mr Monopoly's unearned.
