Leg pain when driving.

Recommended Posts

I used to get pins and needles in my left foot from driving for any length of time with my foot just above the clutch. I always drive like that, but it used to get so bad I had to put my foot on the floor instead. I haven't had this problem for quite a while; I don't think I've had it with this car :D

I used to get pins & needles in my right leg after a certain amount of driving, I narrowed it down to pressure on a nerve from change or wallet in my back pocket, it was new design work trousers, with deep back pockets putting the contents right on the nerve, try driving with nothing in your back pockets!

It's probably not a DVT, but it does need ruling out.

It could be anything from arthritis to a pulled muscle, so it doesn't help to have someone who can't see your injury on a forum tell you what it is. You need to go to a doctor, have them rule out the dangerous things and then if it's still not going away go to a physio or other qualified person to get it diagnosed.

Arthritis is my problem while sitting in the same position for too long, pain down the side while driving, I get out the car like I'm a cripple , a few steps and I'm walking fine again.

That's at least half a dozen things that have been identified as a possible cause; you need a medical professional to work out which one you have. (Or, indeed, if you have something else.)

I'd point out that, in extremis, you can get automatic cars with left-hand accelerator and brake, if you wanted to stop using your right leg altogether; but it is almost certainly something that you can put right short of having to do that.

You mean GO to your local GP rather than get a multitude of crass doo dah on here.

SF is ok but not for medical decisions innit.

Precisely so; or a nurse or a pharmacist might be able to confirm that it's merely a muscle problem. (And would refer you on to a GP if they can't, or are not sure what the cause is.)

I'm sure that everyone saying "I had a similar thing and it turned out to be XYZ" will be telling the truth, but all that proves is that there are any number of things that might be causing his problem. None of us can possibly know which one he has; we haven't examined his leg.

I would agree with all those who have said to seek qualified help, doctor or specialist such as Chiropractor. But just a thought - do you keep your wallet in your back pocket and sit on it? Not many are lucky enough to have too much cash but if you are anything like me there are more and more plastic cards in it. It does not take much to either restict your circulation or to upset your spinal symetry and give sciatic pain
