alchresearch
The Mayan thing is just a 21st century Nostradamus where you tweak and manipulate events to fit in with the predictions. Nostradamus allegedly predicted a "wave of pestilence when the centuries are renewed". Was that the millennium bug of 1999?
flamingjimmy
Also, I just watched an interview with your man Carl, and he is quite clearly not all there. A silly superstitious fool.
Odin's Wrath
This is ridiculous. Sure the Maya were great mathematicians for their day but they also practised human sacrifice and believed in some superstitious nonsense. The Maya simply identify 2012 as the end of their calendar and make no predictions for disasters around this time. I've studied Maya Mathematics a bit and any culture that chooses Base 20 over 10 is clearly a bit mental. You'll be fine, don't worry.
HeadingNorth
I've studied Maya Mathematics a bit and any culture that chooses Base 20 over 10 is clearly a bit mental. That's unfair, it just means they hadn't developed arithmetic for fractions yet. 20 divides evenly by 4; ten doesn't. The Babylonians used base 60 (!) for the same reason. So far as the calendar goes, the mythical "end of time" date in 2012 is about as significant to the Mayans as the date December 31 is to us. The only thing of importance about it is that you need to throw away your old calendar and start a new one.

I was just tryna be funny I think! (and failing) I actually like the Base 20 system, I think if we taught Maya maths alongside some Maya history in schools then this could really ignite some Mathematical yearning in our children. Or just use a calculator.Thought it was Planet X a.k.a Nibiru that was gonna destroy us and the return of the Anunnaki?

Smithster
Also, I just watched an interview with your man Carl, and he is quite clearly not all there. A silly superstitious fool. A silly superstitious fool with a PhD who has been studying the subject for over 30 years. But if you really must dismiss his research out of hand then try reading the works of others, such as Graham Hancock for example. His book Fingerprints of the Gods shows that the Maya (along with other central and south American cultures such as the Olmecs) had an incredibly advanced understanding of astronomy that western science has only caught up with in the last couple of centuries. As for your comment about evolution, what they were actually referring to was spiritual evolution, not Darwinism.
