anniec
Hi, I saw this on the good old Internet and thought it was a brilliant idea: http://www.epbot.com/2010/09/money-money-money.html Now this is an America site and using American pennies but the idea is the same. The reason for the thread is I was talking about it at work and someone was horrified that we'd consider it as you are defacing the queens property and it's "totally Illegal". I've looked and can find things about defacing money but you aren't defacing them really but are technically taking them out of circulation. What are your thoughts on this? Kerrangaroo
I heard that all that defacing coins of the realm bull is old hat now and you can do what you like, might be wrong though.
HeadingNorth
I'm not sure that this would be illegal. Technically, currency does not belong to you but to the Crown/Mint/Bank of England (I'm not sure which), much as your passport does not belong to you but is merely available for your use. That said, though, I'm not aware of any law that specifically forbids using them for other than monetary purposes. (There is such a law in the USA, but that is at least partly because - as of a few years ago - one cent coins could be sold for more than one cent each as scrap metal.) muddywolf
That table top looks great, once the epoxy was poured on. You could also add to what that person has done, maybe have a family photo or a picture in the center.
anniec
I prefer it as a floor to a counter top but there is so much you could do with it. I just wasn't sure if you could legally do it.
muddywolf
A floor would look great, but I'd make sure it was kept dry, I wouldn't want to slip on it. I'm sure you would be fine law wise, I remember seeing Bergerac's car in a Jersey gold store and that was covered in coins.
Rupert_Baehr
As a floor surface, would it be durable? - Get a bit if grit on it and it would soon scratch.
chem1st
The Keel Inn in Barnsley has tables covered in pennies. There are other places that do this, but that is closest one that springs to mind. If you use pre 92 pennies you could have a copper floor for less than the cost of scrap copper itself!
coverdale
Hello Not from Sheffield but saw this topic and just wanted to let you know we have recently installed 50 odd metres of this at the Hippodrome Casino in Leicester Sq. Perfectly legal as long as they are not cut or defaced, no different to putting them in a mattress! Wouldn't let me link but some pics on youtube and twitter if anyone's interested Cheers all
Happ Hazzard
Defacing the image of the Queen of the Realm is treason, and punishable by death. It's as bad as killing swans IMO.
