We are planning on a nice day out on Friday and would like somewhere nice to eat around these areas, dont mind which one. We love the Cricket Inn at the minute so somewhere along those lines. Thank you for any suggestions :)

"Derbyshire" is a big area right? Castleton and Bakewell narrows it down a bit. I wouldn't know where to suggest in Castleton these-days. If you're happy with themey pubs where the menu is exactly the same as every other one in the chain, then the Castle in Castleton springs to mind. But you can have the same menu in Fox House or Dore Moor Inn - which may be nearer for you. Castleton has become way too touristy and the best pub, imo, for food around there, The Cheshire Cheese on Edale Road at Hope (not the one in Castleton) changed hands a while ago and I hear the food isn't up to the mark nowadays.

The Plough, near Hathersage, does good food - especially the rib of beef to share. Although something about it is rather uninspiring - maybe the tartan carpets and twee decor?

You could venture out further into Derbyshire and try the Ship Inn at Wincle. (Not far from The Cat & Fidlle near Buxton). That has good food but it's a basic inn. Or if you find yourself out Matlock way, a further 15 minute drive to the Bear at Alderwasley is highly recommended.

Around Bakewell you've got the excellent Devonshire Arms at Beeley (near Chatsworth). They have another pub in the village of Pilsley near to the Chatsworth Farm Shop by the same name - but that's a more basic menu, but still good. There's also Rowley's on the roundabout at Baslow - which is rather Thornbridge-esque, you may like that? The Pack Horse at Great Longstone near Bakewell serves nice food - although it's rather rustic inside. The Lathkil Hotel, at the head of Lathkil Dale - just outside Bakewell (Over Haddon) has reasonably good food too (and nice walks down the dale from there). The Druid at Birchover used to be good before it changed hands and turned into some fancy bistro with average food.

If you like the Cricket Inn and that Thornbridge way of doing things, there's the Shoulder at Hardstoft near Chesterfield (on the road to Tibshelf) which is more of a hotel these-days with a very smart restaurant and good food.

Thank you for your recommendations : ) we will definitely try one of these as a few of the ones you mention were already contenders! We have done the Vintage Inns a few times so going to try one of the others, thanks again.
