"Rape not the rapists' fault - It's the world's fault"

Recommended Posts

I never said that it wasn't the same for men, my point is that that perception has far wider and more damaging consequences for women. It reinforces the sexual objectification of women and strips us of sexual autonomy. Given that more men watch porn than women, the impact on us is far greater than the impact on men.

Tbh I don't think there is a link between porn and the things you describe.

But it is predominantly men who commit sex crimes and look at how defensive some of the male posters on here are getting, which proves erebus's point. Instead of getting so defensive, condemn it. Just because you or whomever, views porn and is not a rapist, does not negate the fact that this a huge problem.
I'm happy to condemn it. What I take exception to is being called a rapist or a paedophile.

It doesn't prove their point at all. Its exceptionally vile to call someone a rapist or a paedophile for any reason when they are innocent. There is no justification for it. Can you not see that? You can't start any kind of discussion by saying x amount people do this therefore you are all this. Of course people are going to get defensive.

If it were the other way around, if a male poster had entered a discussion and said that because some women were whores all women should be treated as whores then you and the sisterhood would be up in arms, the mods would be deleting posts left right and centre, bans would be issued. Just because its defaming men doesn't make it ok to do so.

Honestly, I think it's totally understandable for male posters to feel defensive when someone comes and insults their entire gender, calling "males in general" rapists and paedophiles. I know she went on to say some men, but really, whatever point she was trying to make was clouded in huge and unwarranted vitriol.

this weeks top 3 selling books is about porn i wonder how many men bought these ?

They could be a good insight into the minds of men, or if the authors are female a good insight into the minds of women..probably 50-50 in that case.

I wonder how many children bought them.

I agree. You have to realise this is SF though. Generalising whether it be sexuality, race, faith etc is almost the norm. But..If you filter the vitriol what do you have left?

OK, I take the point, but I still think that taking the vitriol aside, Eribus made a valid point. And typically, her sanity/issues with men have been questioned, rather than the subject matter.

That is a possibility, however, I have worked with numerous experts in the field.

ETA: I have worked with academics who have done loads of research on this as well as various psychologists, sex therapists, social workers and probation officers who provide front line services to people who have been abused as well as having worked with sex offenders. I do not doubt that there are plenty of men who dare not come forward or acknowledge what has happened to them, however, it is predominantly men who abuse and rape.

But men are far less likely to be the victim of sex crimes. More women are raped than men and more girls are the victims of child sex abuse than boys.

I was answering this; I wasn't saying anything about who does the raping, just that it’s not possible to know if more females are raped than males. Males also rape males and males are less likely to report it therefore the true extent of the problem is unknowable.

And the fact that more men are violent isn’t the fault of the men; it’s the fault of evolution which made men the hunters and worriers. :)

Except that prisons are pretty good barometers of the levels of crime and statistics which are used by many academics in the field...that can include all crime.

Reported crimes.

If it’s not reported there won't be a conviction or a prison sentence.
