Gas is a natural flame - hence the coal fire treatment works' the best. I don't have a coal fire though. When I was growing up, we sometimes had to live in shabby hostels and my parents would often stick a shilling in the meter, shove a slice of Mothers Pride on an ordinary fork and make us toast from the heat of the gas fire.
