Movehut
The Co-operative Group has agreed to buy 632 branches from Lloyds Banking Group. Do you think this is a good deal for the taxpayer, as the Government own 40% of Lloyds?

green
Its good news for the taxpayer, as its takes away some of the branches from the big 4. Id like to see a few more banks or mutuals come into the market so we get more competition going forward.
frededwards
People should stop this beatification the Co-Op. Having worked for them a few years ago, I can assure you that the Co-operative Society is as ruthlessly commercial as any other corporate entity, and lot worse than some. Having worked for them a few years ago, I can assure you that the Co-operative Society is as ruthlessly commercial as any other corporate entity, and lot worse than some. That's interesting. I was thinking of a move to try and find a more ethical bank. Is it all twaddle ?
frededwards
In my experience, yes. All CRS (Co-operative Retail Services) employees are forced; as a condition of employment; to have their salaries paid in to a Co-operative Bank account. Co-op Bank’s charges as high as, if not higher than, the equivalent charges from other high street banks, and their marketing of other services is very aggressive. As an aside, during the miner’s strike the manager of a CRS store in West Yorkshire was sacked for giving food that was damaged (dented cans etc.) or that had gone out of date that day to the Miners Wives Support Group, rather than putting it in the skip. “You caring, sharing Co-Op!” Yeah, right!
