Homicide rates down to 30 year low

Recommended Posts

I haven’t attempted to prove that porn prevents rape, I have simply presented some of the evidence that leads me to the opinion that it helps to cut rape crime.

When two people have apposing opinions and each would like the other to change their opinion, the best way forward is for each to present the reason why they have the opinion that they have, possibley even present some evidence that would lead them to that opinion, I don’t think many people would change their opinion based on the other just acting like a loony.

I have an opinion based on the evidence I have seen, you apparently disagree with my opinion and for some strange reason think I might change it just because you act like a loony. To change my opinion I would need to see some different evidence which you haven’t presented, It makes no difference to me whether you present the evidence or not, but it would help to further the discussion.

I suspect though that you don’t want to discuss it and would rather just act like a loony.

What are the arrest rates and conviction rates for all crimes?

Get BME teenagers to stop stabbing each other and it'll be lower still.

The fall in violent crime is uniform across North America and Europe so after yesterday you could say stop giving guns to white people in Denver and they won't be able to shoot people dead in cinemas. But I don't think that would suit your bigoty.

Quite. I thought that young white males were more likely to be involved in the type of street violence that that poster refers to.

Huh? I just presented some evidence which you arrogantly interpreted and dismissed as toilet humour. You didn't present anything evident that leads anyone to the opinion that porn cuts crime. What you presented was a suggestion, not evidence. The evidence that using the toilet, or driving a car is self evident while those actions are being carried out, not that it curtails it.

What you're suggesting based on you weak link is that crime is/can be reduced by simply watching 'Hawai Five0' or 'Kiss my whip' as some sort of self medication. If that's the case can you point to any situation where the penal system uses your highly acclaimed crime or porn media model to medicate criminals and sex offenders prior to release and any long term statistics of those medicated on media re-offending or not?

Are you an avid watcher of porn, if so are you self medicating because of it?

You’ve still not quite got the gist of how discussion and debate works have you, slagging off the research that I used to form my opinion simply won’t change my opinions, but presenting some evidence that opposes that research may.

Why do you think porn increasing the instances of rape? And what lead you to that opinion?

Good point, I am sure that therapists are queuing up to treat sex offenders with endless viewing of porn in prison, as part of their rehabitation.

I doubt using porn would be a suitable treatment for sex offenders, but studies do suggest access to porn can reduce reoffending.

Legalizing Pornography: Lower Sex Crime Rates? Study Carried out in Czech Republic Shows Results Similar to Those in Japan and Denmark

ScienceDaily (Nov. 30, 2010) — Could making pornography legal lead to lower rates of sex crimes? A new study by Milton Diamond, from the University of Hawaii, and colleagues, addresses this controversial question.

Results from the Czech Republic showed, as seen everywhere else studied (Canada, Croatia, Denmark, Germany, Finland, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Sweden, USA), that rape and other sex crimes have not increased following the legalization and wide availability of pornography. In addition, the study found that the incidence of child sex abuse has fallen since 1989, when child pornography became readily accessible -- a phenomenon also seen in Denmark and Japan.

The research results are published online in Springer's journal Archives of Sexual Behavior.

The findings support the theory that potential sexual offenders use child pornography as a substitute for sex crimes against children. While the authors do not approve of the use of real children in the production or distribution of child pornography, they say that artificially produced materials might serve a purpose.

Most significantly, they found that the number of reported cases of child sex abuse dropped markedly immediately after the ban on sexually explicit materials was lifted in 1989. In both Denmark and Japan, the situation is similar: Child sex abuse was much lower than it was when availability of child pornography was restricted.

But if this theory has any credibility then why would porn not be used as part of the treatment process? Perhaps all prisoners should have access to it, it may prevent male on male rape too?

I'm not "slagging it off" Mr Smith, I'm questioning your opinions which ultimately question your motives . Did you read and think 'yep, that'll do for me' because it fits like a jigsaw into the misogynist/bigoted mindset.

Stop shifting the goalposts, let's stay with your theory based on your link why rape reduction is the consequence of it. We can get to why porn could be a factor in the increase later.

If you advocate the premise that rape/sexual violence (which is a crime) is a means to the reduction by watching it, would you conclude that the reduction in serial killer (crime) is the result of watching Helen Mirren in Prime suspect is a possibility? And please tell us why the establishment hasn't put forward a programme or anything slightly related based on your credible evidence link, after all it's not as though this idea has recently been introduced.

I totally agree that if a rapist is watching porn then he is obviously not raping, even a dimwit can work that one out. I will concede if you can provide evidence that watching it changes the physiology and chemistry of a deviants brain and many more internal and external factors rather than some facile paper that purports to be evidence.

An aside question. What is your opinion on porn and sexual deviancy as a common denominator?
