Smithster
Wait! What? Christmas YES CHRISTMAS not bloody Xmas isn't a church thing? Just run that one by me. I suggest you read up about 'Yule' and other winter festivals that centred around celebrating the returning of the light following the winter solstice on Dec 22nd, which were abolished by the Catholic church and replaced with some fantasy story about a magic carpenter because of their obvious links to Paganism. Personally, I would like to see the UK return to the old-style solstice celebrations, which were based on the idea of a family gathering in the depths of winter to feast and drink, rather than the hideously commercialised, abomination of an ad-fest that Christmas has become.
