neeeeeeeeeek
That place always seemed a bit of a mystery to me. They did not seem to promote themselves very well. Shame to see it go though.
DerbyTup
People just aren't going out to dine as much due to the recession. I still dine out fairly regularly on business - but the places that you used to have to book weeks in advance in some cases are now open to walk-ins. The demand just isn't there like it was. Even top restaurants are struggling. Some are even making excuses about the gas going off or problem with the drains and cancelling customers because it isn't worth them opening midweek for just a handful of clients. This is disgraceful behaviour imo and some customers will not forget this when the going gets good again - as it will - but maybe not for some time yet. If there's anything good about being in a recession it usually means that only the fittest (ie. the best) survive. Places that offer poor fare or value for money go by the wayside. Unfortunately though, this recession is so deep that even good places are being hit. I think city centre restaurants are particularly vulnerable due to the high rents they have to pay. Hence the demise of these two places. It's a shame really because I can see us ending up with nowhere to go eat in the city centre and the only decent remaining places being out in the suburbs or further out in the countryside, like Derbyshire of course! Still plenty of top dining places thriving out here.

DerbyTup
The real shame is that it also 2 independents that have fallen by the wayside Very true. Unfortunately the independents do get hit badly because they haven't got corporate millions to back them up. Just wander around the food court in Meadowhall and see where the biggest queues are - Burger King, KFC and Pizza Hut. They serve up garbage food in good locations and it's a winning formula. Same to a lesser extent with the likes of Zizzi and Strada and those kind of places. Mass produced rubbish that attracts those who think they are getting authentic Italian food for not much money. Whilever we raise generations of kids who are not fed properly in the home or taught what constitutes good food - these awful corporate chains will prosper and those who try and set out to produce good fare will struggle in times like this. ab6262
The real shame is that it also 2 independents that have fallen by the wayside totally agree but in this city what do we expect?? the council does nothing to support independents! in fact goes out of its way to make things difficult for us, chains it seems can pretty much do as they like, the lack of help for independents is abysmal! also the "herd mentality " of a lot of people in sheffield who only go to branded muck houses! instead of paying that little bit extra and getting real food cooked well....as others have said around here if its not "2 for a tenner" most dont want to know:roll:

GodStar
Cary Brown seems not to have much luck with his restaurants..he seems to be a talented chef but has no business head. Didnt his successful Slammers restaurant shut down because he forgot to pay the tax man?

Some chef's have ideas well above their station. Sometimes at least you know what you're getting at a chain restaurant- and they do vouchers!
