Odd Facts we didn't know

What do Norwich and Newport (Gwent) have in common?

They were the two trial areas for postcodes in the mid-1960s: NOR and NPT respectively. I know because Coleman's Mustard had postcode NOR 75A.

Later, Royal Mail switched to no more than two consecutive letters in the first part (hence NR and NP).

Croydon was also a test area, it had the postcode CRO for the first part. That was changed to CR0 after a while.
