gnvqsos
Conservative idea, sell vacant high value council houses and build more affordable houses from the proceeds, sounds reasonable. Labour policy, compulsory purchase people’s homes at well below market value and demolish them, that was bad idea. Conservative ideas-make good quality council houses in prime sites available to those not needing social housing, and move displaced residents to the periphery where they will cause less offence. It sounds like Soweto under RSA aparthied. Labour policy-build even more social housing to benefit all. I wont patronise the readers by labelling the policies good and bad,but will allow people to form own conclusions. MrSmith
Lots of people get offered jobs, didn't you know that? Just because it doesn't happen to you doesn't mean it doesn't happen to others. Are you really saying that applying for jobs you can do would be silly? That seems very much against the current view on much of the Right that says people should consider doing anything, even for no pay. What's silly is that people can be effectively ruled out of jobs they could do well because we've left the cost of housing too much to the market to decide. The offer doesn’t usually come out of the blue, it’s offered after applying, it’s silly applying if you can’t afford to travel to the job or live near the job. Don’t worry too much about it because there will be other applicants for the job that will live nearer or can afford to travel. The vacancy will be filled. MrSmith
Would you care to set a time frame and location, and state what category of demolition you mean? 1997 - 2010, UK, Homes that were occupied prior to demolition, houses that could have been refurbished and occupied prior demolition. Ms Macbeth
wasnt it the tories which started the ball rolling in selling houses then keeping the money for themselves:huh: When you say themselves, you mean using the money to pay for other things apart from housing. I don't think they shared it out between the members of the conservative party.
