#SosDairy or RIP Dairy ?

Recommended Posts

They did go bankrupt, in the last 10 years 50% of the UK dairy farms have been lost, nobody noticed because the UK imports 1 million liters of milk each day to make up the short fall.

You are painting a false picture. Most of the ones that did go bankrupt were the small inefficient farms which meant the more efficient farms were left and that was over a 10 year period.

Farmers don't want subsidizing for what they produce but the UK government has always had a cheep food policy, it cant make sense that a pint of bottled water has a higher value than a pint of milk can it ?

The subsidies come from the EU and are just passed on by this government. Of course they want the subsidies and are happy to take them because every time they complain the subsidy gets increased. If the farmers don't want subsidising why take it?

It should be left to a free market without the subsidies and a pint of milk should reflect the real cost incurred in producing it. It may then be expensive and that's how it should be but by doing so the farmer will then moan that nobody is buying their milk.

I know nothing about the dairy business but a bit about how the big supermarkets operate, basicaly they bully all their suppliers to obtain the least possible price on a do it or else threat!.All the buy one get on free offers who do you think pays for them certainly not the supermarkets, they all do it make no mistake. One for example who sold over a million pounds a year of one of my ex employers products informed him that in the following year they wanted a substantial price cut.It was pointed out to them that ingredients, power and wages had all increased making him produce at a loss if this cut went through, the answer was do it or we drop the product and go elsewhere. This is how they all operate no matter what their slick smooth talking mouthpieces pronounce every so often when the government half heartedly say they are going to take action on this and the practice of making their suppliers wait months for payment!.:roll::huh:
