He and his fellow crewmen were astonishingly brave, if that rocket motor had failed to fire they would have been stranded on the moon with no possibility of help. Even during the (then) cold war, the Russians publicly acknowledged their bravery.

i wasnt even 3 months old when they landed

 

I was 8 and remember staying up late to watch it on the telly. Now that really is a once in a lifetime event, seeing the first man to set foot on the moon (or any extraterrestrial body for that matter). It's a shame he's died because there was a bit on the news not long ago saying that he was hoping to make it to the 50th anniversary of the landing. RIP.
