HI There are plenty of pike in but they are not the problem .Its always had loads of pike when we had matches they were part of the fun. Still had roach perch bream . No more pike in now than there were then. Management is the trouble nobody bothered. Hully is a vast water 30 ft deep so you are never going to catch fish like aston ponds so its for proper anglers. Management want as much for fishing hully as aston ponds were you can get car behind you. Its to expensive for what it is thats why nobody goes.

Cheers for the correct info, I thought it was summat to do with what I mentioned in previous post, so it's down to bad Management, they probably care more about sailing ect, what a shame, with a bit more effort it could be a brilliant venue if run correctly.

I have noticed on a few posts that 'Too expensive' has been referred to ! Ulley at present is free because the ticket machine is broke and the management cant be arsed to walk around collecting the money. Even if the ticket machine is working, it is still only a few quid to fish, so hardly expensive. It can be hard work at Ulley but that goes for every 'wild' water that you fish. My mates son fishes Ulley on a regular basis as it is local to him and he has only 'blanked' once this year ;)

the problem with natural venues like ulley is that people are to used to fishing commercials which are designed for fishing with higher stocking levels, easy access and on site facilities so if people go to a place like ulley with non of the above they automatically label it as crap!!! i grew up learning to fish on the don and canal around sheffield and this is where i learnt my watercraft and in my opinion this style of watercraft is lost on commercial fisheries!!! im not knocking commercials as i spend most of my time on them however i equally enjoy fishing more natural venues, which are more challenging but with a bit of watercraft you can reap the rewards!!

You failed to mention that you also have to pay to park in the car park and if you dont you now get clamped. You cant get car at back of you on any pegs and if you park near neck end beware you will get a ticet for parking from police on there way maltby. Same if you park near bridge at arches. Its more to fish at hully than most places like aston ponds when you add cark parking .Same for price of season tickets why do you think nobody buys one. There is only one person fishes hully on a regular basis call him Derek goes 3 times a week and he does have some decent days ocoasionaly . I walk round nearly every day and there is only him there occasionaly with his mate jack . Most days one of them blanks but they are specialists on this water and do have some decent days on the feeder . Lets get some one in charge thats intrested in fishing place is not disability so dont go unless you like a hike.

All my fishing used to be on rivers like the upper Welland, upper Witham & the river Glenn all venues that needed a bit of extra water going through. The fishing was poor during the summer so the start of the season through until October was spent on local reservoirs. Ulley was a favourite of mine especially for Roach. The roach fishing was excellent, not for big Roach but plenty 4oz to 12oz. A lot of the fish were caught on the slider in 12 foot of water with light hook lengths and small hooks with maggot. This was in the pegs from the dam wall to the bridge, if I went in the neck end it was pole fishing with hemp & tares.

That's almost 35 year ago I haven't fished there for about 15 years I still can't believe the fish have disappeared. This thread has brought back some good memories for me.

I think a lot of anglers don't pay the same attention to detail as people who learnt to fish before commercials.

Don't get the wrong idea as this is not trying to knock anyone for doing what they do.

:hihi: Yes about 8 years ago roach fishing at hully was brilliant . But sadly very lucky to catch one these days after the so called modernisation now mostly skimmers and a few perch, The damn wall is no longer accesable for angling nor is any of the stretch till you get up to the watch tower. Matches no longer take place no one on rotherham council bothered to develop it as a fishing venue more for boaters. Ticket machine for day tickets been broken for ages no one bothered .
