If one leaves a job by choice, how long before they can claiming benefits?

Recommended Posts

If you leave by choice you can put a claim in for JSA, & it will be paid, but then you'll have to give your reasons for leaving to a Decision Maker, who will write to you. If they are not satisfied with why you left, then benefit will be suspended for a period set by them up to 26 weeks.

Just to point out that a mate of mine was dismissed from his job & it was nearly 8 weeks for the DSS to sort his money out. In the meantime he was relying on the goodwill of friends to help out thankfully for him we did what we could for him.

Yes his cheque from the social was backdated, but nearly 8 weeks!. Ridiculous.

Had he not have had mates to help him out, heaven only knows how he would have coped.

He could have asked for an interim payment until it was sorted out, the it is paid back when the benefit rated & paid
