Anna B
To be honest i'm glad that it fell through it would have been awful being turned into student flats!the old post office really should be some kind of market like some of the arts and crafts markets there are in Camden. I think the idea of an arts and craft market is excellent. We need to revitalise the city centre and this would be a good start. The whole of Fitzallen Square could do with a facelift, but then it could be a lovely area with a bit of imagination. If the courthouse could also be included in the scheme the whole area could become a more Bohemian Quarter to offset the generic chainstores of your average city centre. Annoni_mouse
Personally I'd love to see the building turned into something akin to the Printworks building in Manchester. It's position, close to the railway and bus station would be superb, but I guess we'll just end up with just a wreck which will need pulling down at some point or another empty office block. Wardsbitter
Having observed the state of the General Post Office in Fitzalan Square for some time I have seen no improvement in its overall condition. Supposing it got to a state where it was proposed it was demolished do you think there would be a public outcry? Ousetunes
This council is responsible for more vandalism of this city's buildings than the Luftwaffe were ever capable of doing. An outcry would make no difference; they will carry on regardless.
monkey104
It's already in a state. Every bit of copper, metal or any thing else of value has been stripped out. Its rotting from the inside out. Its an eyesore and needs pulling down.
Wardsbitter
Can you think of any other building we have lost that would be as great a body blow to the conservation minded amongst us as the GPO?
