What the tories really believe

Recommended Posts

We can see a clear picture of tory beliefs emerging if we consider just two recent statements from high in conservative party ranks. First, Boris Johnson's claim that the Olympic Games embody the tory ethic, and then George Osborne's rejection of the Lib Dem call for a tax on wealth, stating that such a move would 'drive away wealth creators'.

Well, since the tories are working hard to remove minimum wage and working time regulations we can see clearly that the income these so called 'wealth creators' generate is certainly not something to be shared out among their employees (that's you and me), and add to this the tax avoidance that such individuals and companies employ and we can begin to notice that there is no plan to generate any wealth for ordinary folk. Wealth creators generate their wealth by exploiting workers and resources, to make themselves rich beyond measure.

And who are these so called wealth creators? Well, Mr Johnson's quip can help us to answer this question. We can all agree that the Olympics have indeed embodied tory values since over 70% of medal winners were educated at independent or grammar schools and took the glory, while thousands of unpaid volunteers carried out all the menial tasks. And the whole event was a privatised monopoly where corporate businesses sold overpriced food and drink to people who had their own food taken from them at the gate. Oh yes, and the security company G4S had to be bailed out by the public sector following their failure to fulfil their contracted obligations. Privilege and the old boy network is the name of the game.

This is the world that the tories are creating under our noses, a world where privilege is the ordained route to success, big business executives make all the profits and the ordinary folk do all the work with little or no reward.

Just two people who have something to say. It doesn't reflect the entire party or what Tories think.

As for G4S - it was LABOUR who awarded them the contract.

And it's former Labour minister John Reid who's been a director on the G4S board since 2008.

Privilege and the old boy network is the name of the game.

You're absolutely right. But perhaps you didn't think it would be Labour doing it?

As for your bi on tax avoidance, Labour's very own Ken Livingstone is also guilty of that.

And there's an interesting piece here about Labour's Ben Coleman:

In his professional political life he helps the cause of tax avoidance. His clients include the British Virgin Islands Financial Services Commission. It sees its role as “safeguarding the privacy and confidentiality of legitimate business transactions” in what is commonly regarded as a tax haven. In 2007 he won an award for his work for The Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners. They exist to represent the professionals who help people to avoid tax.

Pretty pointless OP IMO, everyone knows what the tories are like, we've seen it enough times before. I mean, look at the posts of some of the supposedly tory supporters on here and anyone can clearly see what they're like. No doubt we'll see even more examples in this thread, wait .....

Link please. And I don't mean Dave Spart's blog.

11 May 2011 saw reports across the mainstream media that Mr Osborne had attacked employment laws and regulations, and had promised a wholesale review, including the minimum wage. On 20 November 2011 Mr Cameron announced his plan to abolish the Working Time Directive, gaining universal approval within his party and support from 16 Lib Dem coalition partners. This statement was reported in most serious publications and broadcasts.

More generally, tory members demand deregulation as a matter of routine. For example in the Sunday Telegraph today David Davis has called for cuts in tax and labour market regulation.

Post 2 doesn't quite justify post 1. I googled "May 2011 George Osborne minimum wage" and got http://labour-uncut.co.uk/2011/05/12/thursday-news-review-52/ which is just a lot of talk from Osborne but not exactly "working hard to remove etc". It was over a year ago. We know the Tories are scum but if you're going to accuse them of something make sure they're doing it and give some evidence or it's just crying wolf.
