What the tories really believe

Recommended Posts

Anyone who believes LOCOG to be without ties or links to the government past or present is deluding themselves.

Isn't it funny that when G4S couldn't provide, people were laying into the Tories for it?

Labour supporters, or at least those on here, seem to blame literally everything on the Tories, even the war criminal Blair is called a Tory by some.

Regarding G4S and the awarding of the Olympics contract, maybe their employment of the former labour Home Secretary John Reid helped them a bit.

No one is disputing there are links or ties, but LOCOG are being talked about as if they are part of either the past or present government. This simply is not the case.

LOCOG is a private company and not even wholey created by the government.

It was set up by the government along with Olympic bodies. The government alo set up a public body - the ODA. The ODA, LOCOG and government departments work together.

If you think that a decision around security, that could also impact national security if it went wrong, would be left to LOCOG alone then you're being naive.

Nope, I never said they were part of the government. Or implied it.

No, after the USA completely re financed them in the 1950s, (a decade after they bankrupted us.) The German economy has had a mixed history. It has received a huge boost once they had conned the rest of Europe to join the EURO and were able to suck in the money from the rest of their victims. Now they languish on the periphery of the largest financial disaster in the history of the developed world as the reality of their arrogance dawns. So much for their markets.

Regarding their social welfare, their record is not that good, child poverty is high. Their health service is acceptable, although ridiculously expensive at about 14% of earnings. They are better than most, but not a system we should seek to copy or learn from.

Where do you think we can learn from? The Tories slant towards American-style policies poses much bigger problems IMO. No system is perfect of course but I'd rather not take lessons from a system (i.e. USA) that leaves one third of citizens without adequate health care. Or a system where a good college education can cost $100,000 or more. Or a system where there is no safety net for the vulnerable. The real lessons are closer to home, in our neighbouring countries IMO.

What real lessons and from which countries?

From neighbouring countries that have solid social welfare and free markets.

Where do you think we should learn from? Do you like the American model? That is what we seem to be moving towards after all, and that is not a criticism of just the Tories but of other parties as well.
