lazarus
£20 a head seems a bit much. Nice day out but very expensive. Why do you think the Duke is a millionaire?

Bilge
Could it be taken into public ownership? The people that live there could be rehoused nearby - Chesterfield town centre has some nice flats.

Chatsworth should be preserved and owned by the public. It has some very important history dating back to the 1380s!

Yes it does have some important history and as opposed to being paid for by the hard pressed tax payer, it is maintained by it's rightful owners to an excellent standard and paid for by members of the public who wish to pay to see it. That is incorrect - your income taxes are sent to the EU and sent back to fund Chatsworth, and many other places too. The ownership - dubious. Either way, tis paid for via taxation upon the commoners. Twas the case that NI was supposed to fund pensions. But in less than 4 week time brethren will be taxed more harshly to fund the unfunded pensions! (And ultimately the landowning elites)
