Chatsworth, too expensive?

Recommended Posts

Indeed.

One shouldn't be born into owning Chatsworth. Chatsworth should be preserved and owned by the public.!

The same could be said for queuing up and paying to get into Buckingham Palace. Why should the taxpayer have to pay to get into something they own?

Remember this?

Do you not pay the upkeep on a building you own?

I suspect the majority of visitors to Buckingham Palace are foreign tourists and therefore would not be UK taxpayers.

I started this off by asking if the admission price to the country fair is a bit high. This has lead to racialist, class based crass explosion of nonsense imaginable.

To sum up, I think the price was a bit much for us as we were going for a relatively short visit, I have larned that to get my moneysworth I will take a picnic and make a day of it.

Regarding the ownership of the house, I would rather the Duke and Duchess continued to run the place. As an alternative look at Wentworth, pillaged by the Labour government in the 40s further ruined by Rotherham Council ownership and now in the hands of eccentrics. A crying shame.

Oh so true.

Chatsworth charges a price many thousands are happy to pay. We'd like to have visited the Country Fair, but hadn't enough time to make it economic. Would we have gone at half the price, for a few hours after 3? Probably, yes. Too expensive for us? Not affordable? Neither, we could afford it, but chose not to. Seems fair all round. If more had been prepared to pay the congestion would have been truly horrendous!

Wentworth is an example of what happens when an affluent family loses control and various state bodies and lesser capitalists have their way. The house has slowly deteriorated, although the remaining Wentworth Estate is reasonably well cared for. Look at our council estates and you can see how well kept things become under public ownership.

Fortunately, we all have a choice. Spend our cash somewhere like Chatsworth, visit the open Peak District mostly without any charge, or stay at home. Creating wealth as an entrepeneur, and passing that wealth on to employees and local traders, seems outside the concept of many in this area. Noblesse oblige.

HEAR HEAR. Well said they taxed them to death and spoiled our heritage.

But why not go and live in France now if you think their system is better, then you can complain about paying taxes to cover a president, his palace and entourage and I am sure there will be plenty of chateau’s whose admission prices you can moan about

Hey up! the president is working for a living, running their country, it's called perks of the job, not like the royal lay abouts in this country, doing nowt but ponce, and ponce around shekkin hands, when they are not naked, taking drugs, and wearing Nazi unforms. Go on say it, they are worth every penny.
