Pink2Bubble
Sheffield Forum were denied an opening day victory despite twice taking the lead. New summer recruits were included in the first game as Jay Bowden and Ryan Savage made full debuts whilst Eifion Griffiths and Corey Crownshaw were named substitutes. The game started brightly for Forum and they took the lead around 10 minutes in as good work all round saw Shane Middlebrook find the net giving Forum a 1-0 lead. Joe Neate got the assist. Forum continued to work hard in the new formation but struggled at times getting forward. Shiregreen were then awarded a penalty for a push in the area as they looked to equalise. Shiregreen forward hit the left hand post and the ball bounced out of play giving Forum a lucky escape. However they did level during the first half, a weak header back to the keeper saw the forward clear to slot home. HT: Shiregreen Athletic 1-1 Sheffield Forum Half time saw another formation change as they benefited from using various tactics through pre season and the game opened up a lot more. Forum regained the lead as last seasons top scorer Daniel Sheedy gave them a 2-1 lead as the ball broke to him inside the area. Shiregreen pushed forward but the defence held tight until around 75 minutes when a brief lapse allowed a sloppy goal. As the ball was played in, the ball wasnt claimed and somehow found its way into the net. Afterwards, both sides went in search of a winner, Shiregreen actually came the closest as they rattled the bar but honours even in the end. All in all, a good point and something to build on for the rest of the campaign. Forum head to High Green next weekend as they look to take maximum points. FT: Shiregreen Athletic 2-2 Sheffield Forum Team: Smith, Lynch, Jenkins (Proctor), Baugh, J. Bowden (Griffiths), Gray, Wales, Savage (Coates), Neate, Middlebrook, Sheedy. Unused Subs: C. Crownshaw, Gill.
