Why ignore that? Because it's easier. The surface is all pretty fluffy and cute, until you peel it away and find a constant war zone where survival pretty much takes up your day. Why ignore that? Insects have been around a lot longer than we have though. The fact that they have a means to defend or kill is no different from many other life forms including ourselves.
