Marie Curie Cancer Care is seeking supporters who live in the Gleadless and Woodhouse areas of Sheffield to become involved in a new and exciting fundraising group to raise money for local cancer care.

The new fundraising group will hold events, help with supermarket collections and also have the opportunity to share their own ideas to raise vital funds.

The charity already have eight Volunteer Fundraising Groups across the South Yorkshire area and in the last year these groups have raised over £61,000 in support of the local Marie Curie Nursing Service, equivalent to helping to provide 3,050 hours of Marie Curie nursing care. This support was provided to terminally ill people, in the comfort of their own homes and totally free of charge to patients and families, in our local neighbourhoods.

Local Community Fundraiser Liz Howlett explains, “The support of Fundraising Groups is absolutely invaluable to us and a group like this will certainly make fundraising even more fun for our supporters in the Gleadless and Woodhouse areas. We need different types of people who can offer different things to help us raise money for cancer care. You might be great at organising small or large events like coffee mornings, be good with money and figures and make an ideal group Treasurer, be perfect as a group Secretary because you are happy to take minutes, be a natural organiser and able to put a collection rota together, or be a happy to speak in public about the service that Marie Curie provides. Whatever your skills are this new Marie Curie Fundraising Group will need them. We are really excited about getting our local supporters together to raise even more money for the charity!”

If you would like to be involved with the new Gleadless and Woodhouse Marie Curie Cancer Care Fundraising Group, or would like more details on please call Liz Howlett on 0114 279 3010 or liz.howlett@mariecurie.org.uk
