Sonnet Stroll - Free Creative Workshops in Ponderosa Park

Recommended Posts

As a development of our Shakespeare Sonnets project we will be running two 4-hour workshops (open access, drop-in) in Ponderosa Park, facilitated by Cathy Shrank with Art in the Park’s professional writers and artists. This will explore sonnets which evoke strong visual images (e.g. ageing, landscapes). Using textiles, painting, digital cameras and recycled materials, participants will create artwork responding to these sonnets. Participants will also be encouraged to respond to these visual images, creating their own writing.

The process will end in a circular walk in the Ponderosa led by a writer and artist, exploring the art, words and film from the previous workshops. Words will play through mp3 players and participants from the workshops will read their works along the route. Participants will be encouraged to further creation of words and art, using the walk as inspiration.

The first two sessions (Saturday 22nd and Sunday 23rd September, 12-4pm each day) will allow the public to work with an academic, an artist and a writer to explore sonnets with dramatic visual imagery and make new creative work in response, using words and images.

The final session on Saturday 29th September 12-4pm will see work from the first two days exhibited around the park, alongside artwork, writing and sound produced in previous workshops with young people, older people in sheltered housing and long term NHS service users.
