rosieadamson
the thing is people on benefits only have so much to live on a week which the government says they need to live on for food, bills etc they dont get allowed money to pay for extra rooms. Eckolad
What if say one of the rooms upstairs, excluding the bathroom ISN'T a bedroom ? If it was built as a bedroom then it is a bedroom under the rules
Janice P
so why should benefits cover something that you don't actually need? because sisisi some people on benefits (through no fault of their own) living in a 2/3 bedroomed house have possibly lived there for years and spent a lot of money making their home nice, why should they give up a lovely home just because the government/council say so, people have spent years and lots of hard earned money making their house a home and they shouldn't be penalised for doing so. ssbenson
I live in a 3 bedroom house, my stepson lives with us and my husband is ill, having had a couple of strokes 15 years ago. We don't sleep together because of his problems, but we will still have to pay for the extra bedroom, which I think is unfair.

I agree, we have spent thousands on our home, who is going to pay our moving fees? build a shed? build a new fish pond? Pay for redecoration etc.
molly44
i thought it was more than 10 pound extra. isnt it 25 percent of your benefit?. myself i live in a two bed house and i expect to pay an extra 19 pound a week towards the increase in rent i have to make up for having the extra bedroom
rosieadamson
i completely understand ssbenson, it would be fairer if there was some leaway, such as an extra bedroom if people are visiting etc, or like you who has a sick husband and need the extra bedroom so you can both get the rest you both need.
