ronthenekred
Prisoners demanding the right to special meals. Prisoners demanding free drugs. Prisoners demanding the right to Playstations and Sky. Why would they "demand" if it's their right?
Halibut
Wonder how long the killer of the two policewomen in Manchester will get now? Ten years? Less? Grow up a bit, eh? a) nothing to do with the European Convention and b) he'll very likely die in jail.
Halibut
Prisoners demanding free drugs. What's this supposed to mean? What kind of drugs are you referring to?
Obelix
When people enter prison, their human rights should cease , until they come out again. Prison wardens should be able to beat them up to control them and also stop their food. When people are jailed for voting for the wrong party, their human rights should cease , until they come out again. Prison wardens should be able to beat them up to control them and also stop their food. When people are jailed for being homosexual, their human rights should cease , until they come out again. Prison wardens should be able to beat them up to control them and also stop their food. When people are jailed for being black and not letting a white person sit on a bus, their human rights should cease , until they come out again. Prison wardens should be able to beat them up to control them and also stop their food. It's easy to get away with this sort of thing if you make those people no longer "fully" human. That's why human rights exist for all - they protect the minority, and they also protect the majority from the worst excesses of themselves. Conrod
Because prisons are populated with people that society has failed - the disenfranchised, the poor, the illiterate - the people who've fallen to the bottom of the pile. They need a voice. Allowing them to vote goes some way to providing that. That sort of attitude is enough to make a sane, balanced person want to vomit. Hey, let's not blame bad people for doing bad things, blame law-abiding people for the low-lives out there. Heaven forbid that criminals should actually deserve to be punished for their crimes. Jeez, pass me a bowl of lentils somebody please.

woodmally
That sort of attitude is enough to make a sane, balanced person want to vomit. Jeez, pass me a bowl of lentils somebody please. I agree and my question to Halibut the criminal defender is what would he say to someone who has been at the sharp end of the criminal fraternity. What would he say to the burglary victim, the person whos raped, the family of someone who is murdered. "Sorry but its not their fault its societies that they have had a damaged childhood." Its this type of attitude that means people dont take responsibility for their own actions. Criminals need to know that if they do something wrong they will be punished and have their rights taken away.
Jeffrey Shaw
All humans should have legal rights Yes but that's inherent in UK law; "giving" rights, by Act or Treaty, is therefore unnecessary and inappropriate.
