Policewomen killed today- should UK Police be armed?

Recommended Posts

A common sense approach would be to arm police who have to work in very dodgy areas but no sense in arming police in rural or much quieter and safer urban areas.

Perhaps the sight of armed police personnel might make the criminals think twice about any foolish ideas and I'll bet some of them are carrying guns themselves already

ive got two questions which baffle me tho, why were 2 policewomen together and not a man and woman?

and why were they sent if unarmed and they knew shots had been fired??

It was a reported burglary, so they would have been sent just to gather details. In burglary cases the criminal is long gone, but this was a trap and the police had no way of knowing that. If they had sent two men (or a man and a woman) I believe the end result would have been the same, two shot officers.

Not sure what you mean about shots already been fired? The reports I saw and heard didn't say that, apart from weeks or months before.

I do not think that would be common sense at all tbh, i think the only common sense approach is a zero tolerance policy for guns, if your caught carrying one or using one either way should be a life prison sentence.

I think it's pretty obvious they do not think twice about any idea's hence why they are criminals.

armed police means armed criminals and luckily we do not have too much gun crime in the uk and i think it should stay like that, if gun crime does get worse then i think the only way police should be able to use guns is special units of armed officers not all officers carrying guns.

I know someone who is an armed police officer and it is not for everyone. I doubt many police officers would want the responsibility or be the right kind of person to give a gun too.

We have an armed response unit and we should not have a knee jerk reaction to this terrible shooting.
