chem1st
It isn't going to be decided based upon 'trade', more so, merit and circumstance. It shouldn't really matter, as long as everybody gets a fair wage for working in the first place...

Rupert_Baehr
Plumbers! Robbing Gits! (First of all, I''m not a plumber -so I''ve no personal axe to grind- but) : That's the problem with plumbing. Sometimes it breaks and when things go wrong, everybody expects a plumber to appear 'right now!' The plumber thay are after would, of course, be one of those plumbers who lives in a box waiting to be called for. When your [plumbing didn''t break down last week, how much money did you pay your local plumber to have him sit around 'on call' waiting just in case you needed him? If you didn't pay your local plumber a retainer and there were no breakdowns, where did he get the money to feed himself and his family? When you pay for a plumber (or any other tradesman) you are paying not only for the time [and skill] (s)he uses to do the work, but also for the time (s)he sits around waiting for work. Allen
pattricia Why aren't builders on your list? Builders? Define a builder please. If you mean the "Gaffer" on a building site, he's not a tradesman. He's the guy making profit from "Tradesmen".
Mister M
I would say in numerical order : 1. Plumbers. 2. Electricians 3. Car mechanics 4. Joiners. What would you say ? The ones that purse their lips whilst breathing in and shaking their heads, meaning "...that's gonna cost you a lot of money"!

ChrisT70
contract pipefitters (not plumbers) are earning anything between £35-45k depending upon what overtime/travelling they want. refrigeration engineers can break 40k without any bother good crane/lift engineers 35-40k. skilled trades can always earn good money, but they have to be prepared to work longish hrs and travel, often the best money is further away and means lodging. if anyone saw the tv prog about plumbers in london then they were earning anything from 50-150k, but thats london for you and people willing to be ripped off, local plumbers are not earning anything like that despite what the papers tell you, there are lots of unemployed /part employed "plumbers" around.
