Riannon
This gets more disturbing by the day http://www.thecommentator.com/article/2297/is_plebgate_now_as_big_a_scandal_as_the_hacking_furore_ http://blogs.telegraph.co.uk/news/danhodges/100194964/has-andrew-mitchell-been-the-victim-of-a-good-old-fashioned-police-stitch-up/ "Then there is the role of the Police Federation in the whole affair. During the height of the row Andrew Mitchell agreed to meet with representatives of the Police Federation. Mitchell taped the meeting, and provided a copy to Channel 4 News. In it he can be heard explaining what he said to the officer at the gates, apologising for his comments and welcoming the fact that his apology had been accepted by the officer concerned. But after the meeting, the Police Federation representative Ken Mackaill walked out and told the waiting media that “He [Andrew Mitchell] will not tell us what he did say.” What are we to make of this discrepancy? If the Channel 4 News allegations are correct, then some people will inevitably wonder whether Andrew Mitchell has been the victim of a good old-fashioned police stitch-up. Random disrepancies are one thing, but in this case they all seem to go the same way. And if that's the case, then I have to wonder whether Andrew Mitchell ever used the word “pleb”. In all instances where there is a dispute between Andrew Mitchell’s version of events, and the version of the police and their representatives, I will find I now believe Andrew Mitchell. Has a British government minister been framed by the British police service? If so, it is a national disgrace."
WeX
I wonder how you'd feel if it was revealed that one of the members of the public who witnessed it was a Tory minister? Mecky would have them shot if he had his way.
Riannon
Mecky would have them shot if he had his way. On a lighter note these 2 stories from the Daily Mirror made me chuckle.. How to totally misrepresent a story.. http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/plebgate-scapegoat-anger-as-police-officer-1495015 and 48 hours later. http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/plebgate-tory-andrew-mitchell-kisses-1499146

It looks far more likely that he's been stitched up by his own party. If so I'm looking forward to a high octane Tory-on-Tory bloodbath. It could of course be avoided by Cameron fast-tracking Mitchell back into the political front line as a way of saying sorry. ---------- Post added 21-12-2012 at 19:30 ---------- On a lighter note these 2 stories from the Daily Mirror made me chuckle.. Riannon
If anyone didn't see Have I got News for You this evening I suggest you watch the first 5 minutes on I-player. The team try to fit in the conversations as reported in the police log as the CCTV video is playing. Mitchell is through the gate and off down the road about half way through the alleged conversation. Edited December 22, 2012 by Riannon
vinyl
I note that Police Federation chairman Paul McKeever has acknowledged concerns that the federation "stoked up" the incident. Today he stood down early from his post and his deputy has taken over.

I see that you are having doubts now then and trying to move the issues aside. Here's a nice bit of light reading for you. I suspect that you will have to get used to a media full of this very shortly. http://southtottenhamreview.wordpress.com/2012/12/20/plebgate-update/

Nothing can change Mitchell's admitted wrongdoing. The conspiracy investigation is very interesting and unlike others I'm keeping an open mind on that. My comment was more directed at the idea that some poor politician has been the victim of a stitch up when they themselves basically spend their whole time plotting how to stitch others up and each other up. As for the article it links to the original and best example of the two stories becoming conflated. The first time that the email became melded into the original police account in the log book when for all we know there is no connection between the on-duty officers and the officer who sent the email. There was a hell of a lot of people who hooked onto the "pleb" word, it was like a divine gift for them and they revelled in stoking it up for their own political ends. Can't wait to see them all apologise when it's shown they were all had, though I see they are all trying to shift the story to avoid admitting they got it wrong (I1L2T3 is a prime example above, apparently now it's OK for the police to lie because that's what politicians do).
