Did Abba songs rhyme in Swedish?

Recommended Posts

So in effect, they're different songs (lyric wise), albeit the same music?

This would appear to be the case!

the English translation of the Swedish lyrics to "Ring-Ring" are quite interesting:-

Quiet and death are telephone

Is there almost as an insult

Do not you call and say baby now that you did

Everything is so quiet the past

No knocking on my door

What attracted me tempts no, no, as it should

Nothing amuses me right now

No one else just you

Call the ring, only you give me a call

Ring ring, the silence is so complete

Ring ring, dispel the fears that grinds

If I got a signal, I took a leap

The heart did a somersault, ding-dong bing-bong

If you call - call - me a call

If you call - call - me a call

That a phone can eh '

As quietly every day

If it were so, there was something wrong anyway, but unfortunately

If it just said a word

If it was only silent

If I had someone pay for someone only prayer of our Lord

Nothing amuses me right now

No one else just you

Call the ring, only you give me a call

Ring ring, the silence is so complete

Ring ring, dispel the fears that grinds

If I got a signal, I took a leap

The heart did a somersault, ding-dong bing-bong

If you call - call - me a call

If you call - call - me a call

The English version of "Ring Ring" is:

I was sitting by the phone

I was waiting all alone

Baby by myself I sit and wait and wonder about you

It's a dark and dreary night

Seems like nothing's going right

Won't you tell me honey how can I go on here without you?

Yes I'm down and feeling blue

And I don't know what to do, oh-oh

Ring, ring, why don't you give me a call?

Ring, ring, the happiest sound of them all

Ring, ring, I stare at the phone on the wall

And I sit all alone impatiently

Won't you please understand the need in me

So, ring, ring, why don't you give me a call?

So, ring, ring, why don't you give me a call?

You were here and now you're gone

Hey did I do something wrong?

I just can't believe that I could be so badly mistaken

Was it me or was it you?

Tell me, are we really through?

Won't you hear me cry and you will know that my heart is breaking

Please forgive and then forget

Or maybe darling better yet, oh-oh

Ring, ring, why don't you give me a call?

Ring, ring, the happiest sound of them all

Ring, ring, I stare at the phone on the wall

And I sit all alone impatiently

Won't you please understand the need in me

So, ring, ring, why don't you give me a call?

So, ring, ring, why don't you give me a call?

Oh-oh, ring, ring, why don't you give me a call?

So, ring, ring, why don't you give me a call?

So now I would ask the question, if the songs were 'tinkered' with to make them rhyme in 27 languages (possibly). In what language were the original words written? English? Or Swedish, or even Yiddish? :hihi:

There's apparently 140+ songs so assuming each song is different, this could take some time ... :hihi:

OK, according to this, Fernando was originally written in Swedish, then completely rewritten in English, which was translated into Spanish.

Makes you realise just how talented they were ...

Crikey!!!!!...That is pretty amazing...If they did all the translations themselves, it does indeed show a side to their talents that is pretty unknown and pretty obscure!

I've got a whole new side of respect for them, besides their obvious musical talent!

Oh yes, Fernando is one of my favourites...never listened to it in Swedish though. The band is one of the few who were worthy Eurovision winners.

...They were indeed, although suprisingly, according to this they won with only 15% of the possible available vote!

(I'm leaving now - I'm beginning to bore myself!) :hihi:
